Attack on 217

Are the fine managers at sublocal 217, which includes the DHS Human Services Building, waging a silent war against union activists? Their recent activities have left the largest sublocal of the Local 200 without any officers, and missing 5 stewards.

First they decide to move staff from the Church St. office. This includes the Chair and the Secretary/Treasurer. It also affects 3 stewards. Before that can happen, one of the stewards, who was out on maternity leave ends up resigning due to a blatant violation of our contractual rights to have alternate work schedules. So much for being all about families at the Department of Moral Superiority.

Next, another steward, stationed at HSB is suddenly told they'll be moving to another location as well. It's starting to be slim pickings at the 217.

But wait, there's more! Out-of-the-blue, the Vice Chair is informed that they are also moving to a new location. And they're moving the same exact day as the other officers! They also happen to be a steward, which brings the total to 5.

That's a lot of coincidence to take out the officers and at least one vocal steward all within a week's time. On the other hand, it's also giving management a lot of credit for having the brains to come up with such a plan. Never underestimate your enemy I say!

Does anyone else see patterns of behavior directed against Local 200 officers, sublocal officers, and/or stewards?

Re: Attack on 217

It seems there may be more forethought on this than originally believed. Before deciding to move the Vice Chair out of the local, they intended to assign her other duties where a couple of management flunkies would hand out work and report back. The poor person who got moved into that spot instead found out just what that team is all about.--getting you fired.

If they'll do that to a complete stranger with no history, imagine what they would have done to a union activist that they didn't like. Calmer heads may have prevailed, realizing that it would be a tough sell to convince people that they were firing the Vice Chair/Steward for just cause. So instead we saw the quick relocation out of the sublocal.
