The death of SEIU 503?

Scott's picture

Things don't look good on the Measure 64 front. The results are still unofficial, but right now they're showing:

Yes Votes 723,351 50.45%
No Votes 710,409 49.55%

I know that Measure 64 is bad. It will hurt the union. It will hurt other worthy charities.

But has anyone looked at the positive effects that could come from this?

  • SEIU 503 would have to completely revamp how it works
  • SEIU International would likely have a change of opinion regarding SEIU Local 503 when they can't further Das Stern's agenda any longer
  • New leadership would likely arise as the change in political landscape would demand a new perspective (and agenda) from those in power

It's a short list, but it's very late--or very early.

Give a shout-out and let me know. Is this the end, or merely a new beginning?

Re: The death of SEIU 503?

Hi Gina,

So why do you think that Measure 64 passing is a good thing? There was a major campaign by SEIU, the United Way, etc. to vote NO on 64.

On top of that, I have to say that the only good Bill Sizemore (and there's only one no matter how many other people may have that name) is one whose widow can file a death and dismemberment claim for him.

Personal love for Bill Sizemore aside, why was SEIU 503 wrong about Measure 64?

Scott,

What I meant to say it was DEFEATED, which meant it "passed" to me. Ooops. I can tell now my comment did not make sense.

Sizemore- Yes, the comment you said is perfect. Go live in Nevada! I want to tell him. Idiot. I was on Think out Loud for the OPB call in program when he was debating Leslie. He basically called me a liar, well not basically, he did!..

No on 64!. It was DEFEATED... LOL

Take care
Gina

Gina,

Now that makes more sense to me! And as can be seen by the latest election results, the defeat of Measure 64 is holding its own.

Maybe Sizemore, Mannix, and Loren Parks can all go hole up in a cave somewhere with Osama bin Laden where they belong!
